• North Bay Regional Health Centre (Our Schedule 1 Facility)
  • Adults 18+: The Acute Inpatient Psychiatry Unit (AIPU) unit provides high-intensity, acute psychiatric services 24 hours a day for individuals experiencing acute psychiatric symptoms and/or at risk of harm to self or others.  The referral must be Physician led to the On-Call Psychiatrist  (705) 474-8600 ext.7200.  The patient must be medically cleared prior to acceptance and transfer to NBRHC.  Consultations are available anytime during the assessment, treatment and management of patients at the Temiskaming Hospital.  **If there isn't a bed available, it is the responsibility of NBRHC to contact other hospitals for bed allocation.
  • Pediatric (less than 18yrs):  Physician to contact the Pediatric Unit (705) 474-8600 ext 4250 or Pediatrician on-call after hours (705) 474-8600 ext 7200. The admitting doctor notifies Bed Allocation which informs unit lead of admission.  Consultations are available anytime during the assessment, treatment and management of patients at the Temiskaming Hospital.  **If there isn't a bed available, it is the responsibility of NBRHC to contact other hospitals for bed allocation.

Temiskaming Shores Area

• Central Booking (x2289): The Temiskaming Hospital has access to visiting psychiatry for both Adults and Youth through Central Booking for outpatients.  Psychiatry typically sees the patient for assessment only.  There is a waiting period of approximately 3-6months.  Physicians can refer directly through dictation, and are encouraged to complete the Temiskaming Hospital Psychiatric Referral Form.  Health care partners such as Social Workers/Occupational Therapist/etc.. whom the client follows clinically, can refer patients by completing the Temiskaming Hospital Psychiatric Referral Form, attaching a biopsychosocial assessment providing pertinent information to referral needs, and providing the level of priority.
• Canadian Mental Health Association CMHA:  Community visiting psychiatry at CMHA is available when:
  • The individual is an active CMHA client receiving counselling services and the clinician faciliates the psychiatric referral.    There is a waiting period of approximately 6months to access psychiatry once the patient has been assigned to a mental health clinician.
  • Primary care refers to community psychiatry and are able to attend the psychiatric appointment to facilitate the psychiatric referral.
• SickKids TeleLink Mental Health Program: TeleLink provides expertise in the area of child and adolescent mental health to the province of Ontario and beyond. Through the use of live video broadcasting we connect children and youth, their case managers and families to psychiatrists and other mental health professionals for clinical assessments, capacity building and education.  Referral forms can be found on their website: https://www.sickkids.ca/tele-link/index.html The waiting period is approximatly 4months, however there is possibility of being seen more urgently if noted.  Fax referral to: (416) 813-8351
• Seniors Mental Health Program CMHA: Referrals must be made through primary care and is not an emergency service.  Referrals must been the criteria of: 65+, mental health problems complicated by age-related medical illness/functional needs, must be medically stable, and must reside in the community.  This program is a consultation service and consists of two Geriatric Psychiatrists.  

Regional Specialized Mental Health Programs:

• NBRHC Evergreen Lodge 65+:  In-Patient Seniors Mental Health Unit for late onset (age related) psychiatric disorder.  Referral can be found online.  Fax the referral to North Bay Regional Health Centre Inpatient Mental Health Units Regional Mental Health Central Referral (705) 495-7843.  Criteria: Must exhaust local psychiatric/geriatric services (including acute psychiatry in North Bay).  The patient must be assessed by a psychiatrist and trialed treatment options prior to referral.  Also have connected with the BSO Behavior Support Ontario, Seniors Specialized Program (705) 675-9193 x8903.  .
• NBRHC Birch Maple Lodge Dual Diagnosis Inpatient Unit: Birch Maple Lodge provides short-term (up to 18 months) inpatient assessment, treatment and rehabilitation for adults (18+) with a moderate to profound developmental disability and mental health concerns (dual diagnosis). 
• NBRHC Oak Lodge Regional Dementia Care Program: The Regional Dementia Care Program provides comprehensive specialized assessment and treatment of older adults (usually >65 years old) and/or adults with an age-related dementia, which is complicated by behavioural and psychological symptoms, and/or medical comorbidities that exceed the capacity of the community, general hospital, complex continuing care and long-term care system.
• NBRHC Nickel Lodge Specialized Adult Rehabilitation and Transitional Service: Specialized Adult Rehabilitation and Transitional Service which provides care and support to those with a severe mental illness who often present with a co-morbid condition. It is a specialized unit that is patient driven, recovery oriented and integrates patient wishes and goals through a wellness framework. The goal is to successfully address the problems that have limited successful transition into the community by maximizing individual potential, reducing mental health and behavioral challenges, teaching new skills to optimize functioning, improving relationships and enhancing quality of life necessary to return the patient to the community, whether that is to their home, or a supervised living arrangement.  In order to access services must complete the Regional Mental Health Central Referral Form. 
• NBRHC Northern Lights Lodge Intensive Rehabilitation:  Northern Lights Lodge provides tertiary mental health services to individuals within the North East region who are experiencing serious mental illness requiring a longer and more intensive approach to assessment, treatment, and rehabilitation than is provided by district level inpatient services.  In order to access services must complete the Regional Mental Health Central Referral Form.
• NBRHC Osprey Lodge Intervention & Self Care: Osprey Lodge provides care and support to those individuals experiencing a serious mental illness with a focus on maintaining or increasing their ability to care for themselves, wellness planning, skill building, placement, and follow up. A person directed approach allows patients to regain control of their lives as partners in an interprofessional team. Interventions aim to increase wellness and autonomy, to develop essential life skills, and supports to ensure a successful discharge.  In order to access services must complete the Regional Mental Health Central Referral Form.
