Cochrane Temiskaming Native Housing
 

Offers help with housing throughout the district by offering rent-geared-to-income rental units.

Available throughout the district, this includes but is not be limited to: Haileybury, Cobalt, Kirkland Lake, Virginia Town and Larder Lake.

Applications go through DTSSAB Social Housing Program. 

District of Timiskaming Social Services Administration Board (DTSSAB) Housing Program
 

The Social Housing program administers rent-geared-to-income assistance to eligible households in the Timiskaming District. Housing assistance is provided to families, seniors, couples, single people and people with special needs in a variety of buildings; townhouses, apartments, single and semi-detached.

There is also a Home Repair Funding Program.

Eligibility for Social Housing: 

  • At least one member of the household is 16 years of age or older and is able to live independently with or without support services;
  • Each member of the household is a Canadian citizen, or a landed immigrant, or a refugee claimant; No deportation, departure, or exclusion order has been made against any member of the household;
  • No member of the household owes rental arrears to any housing provider under any housing program;
  • No member of the household has been convicted or any offence under section 85 of the SHRA, HSA or crime under the Criminal Code of Canada regarding rent-geared-to-income assistance, or found to by a court of law to have misrepresented their income for the purpose of rent-geared-to-income

Eligibility for Home Repair Funding: Households must:

  • Own a home that is their sole and principle residence with a market value at or below the average MLS resale price for the Timiskaming area and have an
  • annual gross household income at or below $63,300.

Anyone interested in applying for housing or home repair funding may contact the DTSSAB Social Housing Program. Application forms can be acquired in-office, downloaded (here or on website) or you may request that one be mailed to you.

The GA BEH SHOO Inn
 

Shelter and support for Aboriginal or Metis adult males who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless. Programs include: Employable Skills, Job Search Techniques, Men's Healing Circles, Counseling, Education on addiction & dependency, Traditional knowledge and Other related services as requested

The health center has access to mental health counselling services and outreach workers for those residing on the reserve and indigenous.

Beaverhouse First Nation Crisis Line
 

Crisis Line for memebers of Beaverhouse First Nation. 

  • Provides crisis intervention services to individuals affected by family violence and in any situation where there is a crisis 
  • Offers immediate on site or telephone assistance  
  • Dispatches call to police when deemed necessary  
  • Ensures victims receive support and assistance to secure their safety  
  • Arranges meeting family members at centre or agreed upon location to discuss possible crisis resolutions 
  • Provides advocacy on behalf of individuals and families dealing with various agencies 
  • Provides information and referrals to appropriate resources and services  
  • Provides assistance to First Response Team

Circles is a program that supports low income families to find stability and to achieve financial success.  Circle work with the community to raise awareness and to inspire the elimination of barriers that keep people in low income situations.

Misiway Milopemahtesewin Community Health Centre
 

Our Community Health Centre predominately serves the needs of the Aboriginal Community within the City of Timmins and, as resources allow, provides services in surrounding areas of the City. We recognize the importance of client involvement and are committed to offering services in both traditional and western approaches to care. A combination of these “ways of healing” is also feasible from our perspective.

Community Counselling Centre North Bay
 

Provides professoinal counselling services and community programs. Many services are available free of charge.

An Addictions Counsellor trained in Aboriginal/First Nations/Metis cultural-specific practices is available.

Walk-In Counselling Services

Available every Tuesday from the beginning of Septemeber to th end of June. No fees or appointment needed. Some topics that people wish to discuss include couple and family relationships, domestic violence, sexual assault, alcohol or substance abuse regarding themselves or significant others, financial or debt challenges, among others.

Developmental Services Program

Children and families can access us directly by calling. Adults, who are 18 years old or over, who need our services can apply through Developmental Services Ontario. Please ask for an APSW.  There are no fees for these services.
